Frequently asked questions.

Why do I need a Drone Video of my project?

Whether your project is just getting underway, experiencing a “transformative” day or finished and looking its best, let us record your hard work and show off your creativity from the best angles possible. Not only do these videos and photographs look great on your website and social media but they can also be a great parting gift to your client. Furthermore, they’re a great archive to have and show prospective clients what they can expect.

Are you licensed and insured? and where are you allowed you fly?

Yes we are insured and we also possess the necessary pilots licenses. The FAA requires all commercial drone pilots to have a part 107 license. Then, as long as pilots keep their aircraft in “Class G”, or “unregulated” airspace they are good to go. Before any project, we use apps and resources such as B4UFLY and DJIFlysafe to both identify the airspace near your project and if required, gain the appropriate authorization to fly. Generally, as long as we remain under the 400ft regulatory ceiling, we are fine.

Where do you fly?

Ugly Bird Pictures is based in Sag Harbor and and as a rule films projects anywhere on Long Island East of Stony Brook. If you’re further west and are interested however, please contact us and we can discuss your project directly.

What equipment do you use?

We use DJI Drones as they are the leader in this field and manufacture the best drones in the marketplace. We fly the DJI Mavic 3 Pro and the DJI Mini 3 Pro and both are capable of taking fantastic film and photographs in 4K. These are then edited on either Final Cut Pro or Adobe Lightroom to produce the end result which can include custom graphics, text boxes and title pages.. License free music is added via soundstripe.com. All projects will be delivered via Dropbox unless stated otherwise.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes it is. We want you to be happy with our service and if that means more edits or another visit to take further footage, then we will do whatever it takes to complete the project to your satisfaction.

How long can you fly?

Our Drones can operate for 20-35 minutes on a single battery depending on the conditions. Also, we always bring extra batteries, chargers and even a back up drone so that we can fly for as long as necessary to get the shots you want.

What information do you require to begin with?

Every project is different which is why communication at the beginning is so important. Who is going to be watching this video and why? By having a clear vision of what is required, we can both be on the same page with regard to what this project is going to look like upon completion.
